eHealth Ontario has partnered with OntarioMD to implement the new "EMR Adoption Program".
Here is a summary of important details of the program. Follow the links for more information including an overview of the process for first time adopters and for early adopters who want to extend their funding.
A $236 Million commitment
eHealth Ontario has committed $236 million in total support and investment to be distributed over a 3 year period.
Target Adoption by 5700 more physicians by 2012
The EMR adoption program is intended to increase the number of EMR users in Ontario at a rate of about 1900 physicians per year.
Specialists get EMR funding along with General Practitioners
The program includes community based physicians including funding for family practitioners as many as 1100 specialists.
Up to $29,800 for ASP EMR users
Total funding per participating physician is $29,800 for ASP users including $675 per month. Funding for local client server is $27,100 with $600 per month. These funds are intended to cover 75 percent of the total cost of impementing and managing an EMR.
Extended funding with upgrades for PCIT Program adopters
Physicians who previously received funding under Ontario’s Primary Care IT (PCIT) program may be eligible for funding to upgrade their EMR and can receive monthly subsidies of $400/month.
Applications start November 2, 2009
OntarioMD began accepting applications starting November 2, 2009 through September 30, 2011 (applications for upgrade funding are accepted through January 31, 2012).
