New Adopter Program
The following is an overview of the New Adopter Program.
Program Objective
To increase EMR adoption by Ontario physician to improve:
- Care outcomes
- Patient safety
- Practice & clinical workflows
Eligible Providers
Designed for family practitioners and specialists and includes:
- Sole practitioners
- MOHLTC funded physician groups (FHNs, FHOs, FHGs, FFS, etc)

Program Timelines
The funding program will be in effect from April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2012.
Conditions for New Adopters and groups of physicians
The physician or group must select, implement and use the latest version of an OntarioMD certified EMR.
The majority of participating physicians in a group must either agree to participate in the "New EMR Adopter Funding" Program or have been participating in the previous Primary Care IT (PCIT) program. All physicians in a group must use the same EMR.

EMR Use requirements
Participating physicians must use the EMR where possible for the following functions:
- Make appointments
- Bill for services
- Enter encounter notes for patients seen
- Enter problem lists for patients seen
- Store patient care related documents not originated from an EMR, which contain information not already within the EMR
- Make new prescriptions / renewals
- Generate automated alerts / reminders to support care delivery
- Receive lab results electronically, directly into the EMR from private labs supported by the EMR Specifications

The program includes the following services provided by OntarioMD at no extra charge:
- Change management services
- Transition support services
